Düsseldorf/Vancouver,July 29th, 2026 – In the presence of Germany’s Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy, Katherina Reiche, and the Canadian Ambassador to the Federal Republic of Germany, Vera Alexander, Uniper and Ksi Lisims LNG have signed a landmark long-term liquefied natural gas (LNG) Sale and Purchase Agreement (SPA).
This milestone marks the first major long-term LNG supply agreement between Canada and Germany and represents a significant step in strengthening the strategic energy partnership between both countries. Uniper will purchase 2 mtpa of LNG (approximately 30 TWh per year) on a free-on-board (FOB) basis for up to 20 years, with first deliveries expected from 2032.
The agreement marks an important milestone for Uniper as the company continues to build a resilient and diversified long-term LNG portfolio. The fully destination-flexible volumes provide additional flexibility to support security of supply in Europe when needed.

A distinctive feature of the Ksi Lisims LNG project is its planned use of hydroelectricity to power the liquefaction process. By combining access to Canadian natural gas resources with renewable electricity from British Columbia’s hydroelectric system, the project is expected to produce LNG with a 90 per cent lower carbon intensity than conventional LNG facilities. This innovative LNG export terminal adds a differentiated source of supply to Uniper’s portfolio and supports the company’s ambition to build a more resilient and increasingly diversified energy system.
A defining feature of the Ksi Lisims LNG project is its partnership with the Nisga’a Nation, which co-develops the project as a co-development partner alongside Western LNG and Rockies LNG. This unique collaboration brings together Indigenous leadership from Canada’s First Nations, industry expertise, and international energy partners with a shared commitment to responsible resource development and long-term economic opportunity. For Uniper, this partnership is an important element of the project’s long-term strength and reflects a collaborative approach to developing major energy infrastructure.
Ksi Lisims LNG, meaning “from the Nass River” in the Nisga’a language, is a proposed net-zero liquefied natural gas project in British Columbia, Canada. It will be located on Nisga’a Nation-owned land on the northern tip of Pearse Island. Powered by renewable hydroelectricity, Ksi Lisims LNG is designed to be one of the lowest emission intensity LNG facilities in the world with a pathway to net-zero. The facility will produce 12 million tonnes per annum of LNG from two floating LNG production and storage facilities.
